Alabama Spearfishing
Association Meeting Minutes of October 25, 2020
A meeting was held today at the El Rancho
Mexican Restaurant in Daphne, Alabama following the awards
presentation of the 24th Annual Orange Beach Spearfishing
Tournament.
Board Co-Director, Chas Broughton called the meeting to order at
5:45 p.m.
Fish categories were discussed. Specifically lion fish. We
talked about getting a commercial license to sell the fish due
to the Coastal Conservation Association wanting to have the
greatest number of fish possible taken. We agreed to have
a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for the lion fish, to maintain activity
in the category.
We discussed making the amberjack category, JACK. That way
divers could shoot any legal jack. Decision will be made
by next tournament. There will be six categories to be
determined.
The ASA will add a category and increase the registration.
The jackpot was talked about and the idea to either drop it or
make all categories eligible was discussed.
The length of the tournaments was discussed and the consensus
was to have one long tournament in the spring and a shorter one
in the fall.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
Minutes Submitted,
Mike Wade
